people
Who will you find at the porchlight? Everyone. Teachers, artists, students, computer nerds, eaters, liars, lovers, pickers, grinners, shoe salesmen and slobs. We’re everyone and anyone but most of all we are trying. We’re trying to live the way Jesus lived. We’re trying to teach the things he taught because we think it’s what the world needs to hear. We’re trying to help the world because people need more than words and promises…they need love and hope. We’re trying to feed them, clothe them, shelter them, heal them and free them.
porchlight identity
We have a deep sense of connection with Jesus, the historic faith of the ancient Church, and the Scriptures. Our unique calling is to embody vibrant Christian faith in a future oriented community relevant to the emerging realities of the 21st century. As a result we tend to be:
- Committed to the teachings of Jesus
- Open to new thoughts and ideas
- Unafraid of change
- Progressive in our thinking
- Environmentally conscious
- Passionate about social justice and world peace
- A volunteer driven culture of activism
- Determined to make things happen
- Hopeful
We strive to be a multi-generational, diverse, and constantly changing community which can respect and learn from each other and the differences among us. While we are unashamedly Christian, we welcome people who are unsure of their spiritual commitment to join with us as we live out what it means to follow Jesus today.
porchlight community
We believe that God created us to live in community. We were never meant to be lone rangers. As a result, we try to be intentional about building relationships. We are a small church so it's easier for us right now. From meals to small groups...we find there are lots of ways to live in community. One really important way is through our Kitchen Tables groups.
